The
Blind People's Association is a major voluntary organization, recognized
as a public charitable trust and society working for comprehensive
rehabilitation of persons with visual, physical and mental impairment.
In its 50 years of existence, the B. P. A. has carved out a name for
itself as an agency which is credible, legitimate and totally
transparent in its working. The B. P. A. also works for prevention of
blindness and disability, the relief of the aged and the people who are
in the danger of becoming disabled due to natural calamities or
accidents.

SPANDAN is a
local NGO constituted by a group of medical personnel under the dynamic
leadership of Dr. Gyaneshwar Rao. This NGO aims at providing various
social developmental services. Both B. P. A. and SPANDAN have come
together as Kachchh Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center - KCRC. At
present the organization is providing assistive
devices,
ortho-prosthetic
devices, physiotherapy and
micro credit
to earthquake affected persons with disabilities. It has been now
realized that these services should be provided to all the persons with
disabilities in the district of Kachchh on permanent basis.

These two
organizations have been continuing working in the field of disability
management since earthquake and have been providing services like
physiotherapy, provision of prosthesis & orthosis, care of persons with
spinal injuries, Community Based Rehabilitation and orientation of PHC -
CHC Medical Officers. To provide services all over the District of
Kachchh, it established a Mobile Rehabilitation Unit, Physiotherapy
Units at Bhachau, Anjar, Rapar, Navi Dudhai and Bhuj. It also provided
services of visual impaired multi-disabled persons with mental handicap.

A total of 18,868 Earthquake affected persons have been provided
services according to their need. All these services have been
provided completely free of cost to all the earthquake affected
persons. The Center will continue providing these services to the
people of Kachchh District on permanent basis.
